Anyway....
This last Wednesday I went to the first goat show of the year and first one in about 3 years. About 4 years ago I switched to showing pigs and retired from the goat showing. We then sold all of our goats and it was the first time in 20+ years that we didn't have goats on the farm. Well spring came around and it was time to decide if I was going to show pigs again. I knew that I would probably go to the shows this year by myself and so I decided goat would be easier to do. So I called up some friends of mine who we have shown with for years and got 2 market wethers (fixed boy goats).
I've been working with them this spring. When I got them they were pretty crazy because they hadn't been handled much and were down in south Missouri at this guys other farm. So I had to gentle them down before I started to break them to lead.
Here they are not too long after I got them.
They still don't have names!!! Please help me name them!!!
Last Monday I clipped them for the first time. For the weathers you have to body clip them from the knees up. If I were to have breeding stock you just have to do touch ups and make sure they look pretty. One of them took me almost an hour and a half! His hair had a lot of little soft hairs and the clippers just clipped little chunks at a time. At first I thought the clippers were bad but then I got started on my second weather it took only like 5 min on his whole body!
Half way done
I ended up having both of the boys in the same class so my friend had to help me show. They each weighed 85 and 82 pounds. I got 2nd place and last place. Which wasn't that bad I guess for their first show. Plus I'm doing this for the fun of it. Next year is my last year and so I'm just going to enjoy the rest of my time showing.
